Season 02/03 Stagsnet Match Report
Nationwide League Division 2
Tranmere Rovers
3 - 1
 Mansfield Town
Jones 15, Haworth 81, Price 90+3

 Lawrence (pen) 53
Attendance: 10,418 (app 150 from Mansfield)

Date: 29th April 2003

Another two late goals conceeded, but like most games this season the score wasn't really flattering to Tranmere and the score could have been a lot more if it hadn't been due to some great saves from Pilkington.

A large attendance took advantage of the free admission into the ground after Saturdays postponement with a healthy Mansfield contingent in the circumstances of around 150.

Tranmere started putting pressure on the Mansfield goal from the off with chances coming from Anderson, Haworth and Jones. Every clearance that Mansfield made seemed to just come straight back for Pilkington to make another save from. After 14 minutes the deadlock was broken by Tranmere though when a ball over the top of the defence found Gary Jones who controlled the ball and put it past the keeper.

After the restart Mansfield did start to put a bit of pressure on the Tranmere goal. The best chance coming from White which was a long shot but just went over the bar.

Tranmere tried another long ball but Baptiste made a great block to stop the ball.

MacKenzie then came on for Mendes to change to five in the midfield.
The best chance of the half came when MacKenzie played a ball forward from which the Tranmere defence were trying to play the offside trap but Andy Whites shot was smothered by Acterberg.

Half time arrived during which it couldn't be helped but to keep glancing over to the lights to see if a repeat performance was going to happen. Luckily not! After a playing of "Up On The Roof" and "The Only Way Is Up" the second half kicked off.

Half time in the Stags dressing room must have been a thought about the last meeting between the two sides as they came out looking much more dangerous.

After a Lawrence free kick from 25 yards curled agonisingly wide from the goal after 5 minutes Buxton was pushed over in the box by one of the Tranmere players for which the referee gave a penalty. Lawrence hit the ball to the bottom left which Acterberg almost got his fingers to but the ball was too quick for him to stop. Cue chant from the Stags support of "We're going to win 6-1"
White had a great chance to make it two one when he got a one on one with the keeper but sadly shot straight at him.
Soon after Lawrence had a shot which had beaten the keeper but went past the far post.

Tranmere then made a couple of substitutions and slowly worked their way back on top. A Hume run down the left with a cross whcih Haworth jumped to head into the goal past Pilkington.

In the dying seconds Lawrence made a run down the field but was taken out, the ball was got up the field to Price who finished with a one on one with Pilkington.
