THE LOUIS BRISCOE SHOW AT HISTON AS STAGS COME BACK FROM 2-0 DOWN

Mansfield Town came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at ten-man bottom club Histon tonight. Histon were down to ten men when Okay was sent off on 13 minutes for a handball in the box, but Louis Briscoe’s penalty was saved. Histon were spirited in the first half and scored twice in the last five minutes of the half to take a shock two-goal lead. The Stags came roaring back in the second half with a brilliant hat-trick from Louis Briscoe to win the game more or less single-handedly. A classic game of two halves, and Briscoe’s treble takes him to 15 for the season (12 since Christmas) and just one goal behind top scorer Paul Connor. But the Stags will have to play much better than this to have a chance against Kidderminster and Crawley in the next 7 days.

Martin Shaw live minute-by-minute report from the Glassworld Stadium

Three changes for the Stags: Stonehouse, Murray and Smith for Silk, Nix and Cain.

Low crowd alert! The lowest crowd to watch a Mansfield game in our history was 427 at Hayes last season. It is seriously under threat here.

2 mins Smith cross from the left, Mitchley can't quite get on the end of it and it is headed back to the keeper.

6 mins Great run down left by Antonio Murray, who was outstanding here in the game 2 seasons ago, cuts inside, and low shot is saved by Grof. Good play from the Histon striker.

7 mins Good run down the left by Connor, and fine cross for Briscoe who can't get a strong enough connection on the header and it slides wide of the right post.

13 Smith corner from the left, Sandwith fires a header goalwards, it hits the bar, the rebound comes out to Briscoe whose header was handled on the line by Okay. Okay shown a straight red. Briscoe took the resulting pen, and hit it hard and low to the bottom left and the Histon keeper Welch makes a wonderful save. But it was just the right height for the keeper.

Stags playing against ten men again! Briscoe misses his second penalty in 3 days.

17 Adam Smith cuts inside from the left and fires low but well wide of the left post.

Histon showing good spirit, despite being down to ten men.

26 Looping header from Zak Mills (a free header) seems to be heading just under the angle of bar and post, but Grof somehow claws it behind for a corner. Another great save from the shot-stopper-supreme.

31 Briscoe does well to win the ball on the right, cuts along the byeline, but his cross is behind everyone.

32 Nice through ball from Histon just eludes Antonio Murray.

Stags not looking too solid at the back.

35 Great play from Adam Smith, dancing inside from the left, and fires a powerful low shot through a crowd of legs and a yard wide of the right post.

39 Riza looks a yard offide, but play goes on, he feeds Murray on the right and his powerful low shot is parried for a corner by Groff.

40 1-0 Histon. From the resulting corner, Thompson had a chance to clear but was indecisive, the ball spilled clear, and Sandwith is late with a tackle on Taaffe. Penalty. Omer Riza sends Grof the wrong way and rolls it into the bottom left corner.

41 Mitchley blazes miles over the bar.

42 Good run from Spence, great cross from the right, and Connor stoops to head inches wide of the left post.

45+1 2-0 Dreadful defending from the Stags, but a good move from Histon, a good run down the left by Zak Mills, as eventually the ball is swept in from the right by Sparks and Stevenson fired low into the bottom right corner of the net giving Grof no chance. Grof berates his defence.

HT 2-0 An unimpressive half from the Stags, who had the boost of an early penalty awarded and a Histon sending off. But the Stags never looked like they had a man advantage and the defending was embarrassing as Histon swept into a two goal lead. Big improvement needed for the second half. Make that massive.

46 Stags corner from the right. Histon keeper Welch makes a mess of punching clear, it comes out to Sandwith 14 yards out, and he sends a volley crashing off the left post and away. Close! The Stags are out of the blocks quickly and have probably had a rollicking at the break.

48 2-1 Great goal Briscoe. Great ball over the top from Thompson, Briscoe is onside, speeds away from the home defence, and fires a great shot, left footed, past the keeper into the bottom right corner of the net.

Attendance announced as 380, which IS the lowest crowd to watch a Mansfield first team game in our history (excluding County Cup) surpassing the 427 at Hayes last season.

50 A Stags corner from the left and Naylor and Sandwith both get their heads to it and it is a foot over the bar. Stags great start to the second half.

58 Good cross from the left by Smith, and Naylor tries a volley goalwards but it comes off the side of the his foot and goes well wide. Naylor holds his head in his hands. Good opportunity, in space in the box.

62 Histon corner from the left and Clerima heads onto the roof of the net.

65 Good ball in from the right by Spence, but it bounces awkwardly in front of Stonehouse at the far post and he scuffs it well wide

67 Awkward backpass from Thompson bounces up in front of Grof and almost a horror show for Stags as Grof only just gets it away in front of Antonio Murray. Bad play from Thompson.

68 2-2 Brilliant goal from Briscoe, as receives a ball from Adam Murray, cuts in from the right and belts a piledriver in off the left post from a tight angle.

73 Good turn by Connor 22 yards out, and his low left footed shot is saved low down by Welch.

79 2-3 WHAT A GOAL!! Hat-trick. Briscoe. Briscoe down the right, again set up by Murray and then Connor, and belts a magnificent shot across Welch and just inside the left post.

80 Smith run down left, cross about 2 yards from the goalline and it comes off a defender and Murray and over the bar somehow. It looked as though it had to go in from there.

84 O'Rafferty for Mitchley. Mitchley has not been in the game tonight really.

90 Three minutes added on.

FT 2-3

Man of the Match: Only one candidate: Louis Briscoe. A brilliant hat-trick to win the game single-handedly, and all this after missing another penalty.

A classic game of two halves, and a brilliant second half hat-trick from Briscoe, to take him to 15 for the season (12 since Christmas) and just one goal behind top scorer Paul Connor. But the Stags will have to play much better than this to have a chance against Kidderminster and Crawley.
