I'm sorry, was there a match on today? Mansfield and Histon served up one of the most boring 90 minutes of my entire life. Histon arrived with a game plan consisting of stifling the Stags with an 8 man midfield, which worked up until the 91st minute, when Paul Connor headed home to give Mansfield an undeserved win.

Mansfield lined up with a side unchanged from that which beat Newport 4-2 in the FA Trophy. Kevin Pilkington, Tom Naylor and Steven Istead came in on the bench, replacing Medley, Williams and Smith.

It took 5 minutes before the first chance, Paul Connor playing the ball just in front of Louis Briscoe.

On 11 minutes, Paul Stonehouse's cross was blocked, giving Mansfield a corner, which came to nothing.

A minute later, Keigan Parker had a huge chance to open the scoring but couldn't get a decent shot away.

On 20 minutes, Adam Murray played the ball to Paul Connor, who crossed. The ball reached Ashley Cain on the other side, and his cross was headed against the bar by Connor.

Mansfield won another corner on 21 minutes, but it was comfortably punched away.

On 22 minutes, Stags showed their main weakness, taking too long to clear a free kick that should have posed no real threat.

On 26 minutes, Parker put another shot wide, into the side netting.

5 minutes later, a Connor shot hit a defender, going for another corner, but this again came to nothing.

Briscoe had a shot well saved by the keeper on 32 minutes.

Histon's first chance was on 38 minutes, with Zac Attwood hitting a free-kick over.

Neil Collett had his first action of the game on 40 minutes, coming out to catch a cross.

Another Murray free kick came to nothing, before a minute of injury time rounded up a dire first half.

HT; Mansfield Town 0-0 Histon

Louis Briscoe saw his shot get blocked on 48 minutes, before Neil Collett made his only save of the game three minutes later, diving low to his left.

Clerima picked up a yellow card on 52 minutes, fouling Parker, but the cross by Murray went straight into Welch's hands.

Keigan Parker was taken off, to be replaced by Danny Mitchley, on 54 minutes. He obviously wasn't happy about this, but the way he went off, throwing a tantrum towards the manager, should not be the actions of a 'professional' footballer.

Mitchley was in the action a minute later, with Paul Connor breaking away from a Histon corner before passing to Mitchley, who was tackled as he tried to run between two defenders.

Histon had another corner on 64 minutes, again coming to nothing. As Stags broke, Mitchley was given offside as he broke through the Histon defence. A relatively tame shot by him was saved by Welch anyway.

Attentions turned to Zac Attwood, who was injured just inside the Histon half. After being seen by he physio, he was stretchered off with suspected ligament damage.

Stags put all of the pressure on for the last 25 minutes, although they still had very few chances. Foster headed wide from a corner, while Ashley Cain and Tyrone Thompson both hit shots off target.

Kyle Nix replaced skipper Adam Murray on 81 minutes.

On 88 minutes, it seemed that Mansfield had wasted their last chance. A corner reached Kevin Sandwith, who pulled the ball back for Silk, who could only hit it wide.

Before 90 minutes were up, Stags let another chance go. This time Stonehouse pulled the ball back from the edge of the box, but could only find a defender.

Just as the board went up for 4 minutes injury time, Mansfield won another corner. With all the crowd on the edge of their seats (not out of excitement, but just getting ready to go home) Kyle Nix delivered the ball in perfectly for Paul Connor (with just a hint of climbing) to head home.

*This was on 90+1 minutes, not 90+3 as announced on the PA*

There was just enough time for a Nix free kick to hit the wall and win Mansfield another corner, before the referee blew the full-time whistle.

Histon were unlucky to leave Field Mill with nothing after stifling Mansfield's attack for 90 minutes. Hopefully Mansfield can take this second win on the trot as a positive, ready for a much tougher test against Darlington on Tuesday night.

FT; Mansfield Town 1-0 Histon
