Only one change was made for this game by Carlton Palmer from the previous game against Huddersfield, Jellyman got the go ahead of Jason Talbot who switched to the bench. Whilst Sheffield Wednesday started the game with former Stag Lee Peacock upfront and Manchester United loanee Chris Eagles in the squad.

The Stags started the game the livelier of the two teams and within the first minute Matthew Tipton broke free in the penalty area and brought the ball back for Adam Birchill to shoot but the shot was a tame one which went straight into the hands of the towering keeper Lucas. Mansfield then won a corner and Uhlenbeek's corner was met by the head of Stags centre back Rhys Day whose header was saved by Lucas.
In the 25th minute Wednesday gained the corner which was gathered by the outstretching Pressman who then set Gus Uhlenbeek free down the right wing, cries of shoot beckoned from the small segregation of Stags fans as Uhlenbeek steamed towards the Wednesday goal and keeper Lucas was off his line, Uhlenbeek's eventual shot smashed into the legs of Lucas and the Wednesday defence were able to deal with it calmly.
In the 36th minute Wednesday gained a free kick to which Brunt powered over the wall and straight into the woodwork. Moments later it was Brunt again who swerved the ball into the box to which looked like a cross at first glance but the ball had swerve on it and it took a brilliant accrobatic save from pressman to deny the Owls the 1-0 lead.
Carlton Palmer was the centre of attention as the Stags boss was involved in a fracas with the Sheffield players, this had sprung from a dirty challenge from Rhys Day.

HT 0-0

The second half saw Baptiste come on for Buxton, new signing Jon Olav Hjelde replaced Rhys Day and was under the eye from the sceptical Mansfield fans. Uhlenbeek was disappointingly replaced by McLachlan and Captain Richie Barker was replaced by born again Stag Chris Beardsley.
Whilst The Owls rung in the changes, changing the entire line up.
Kevin Pressman recieved a brilliant reception from the Owls fans as he had served them for many a year.
The second half bore no resemblence to the first half as Sheffield Wednesday looked the hungrier of the two. The game had dropped down a couple of levels and did live up to it's name of a pre season 'friendly'. A couple of chances were wasted by Mansfield as Beardsley was caught offside time and time again. But it was Dawson who first tested the new keeper in the goal Adamson to which he did well to parry and collected the rebound before Birchill could steal the ball. Pressman was rarely called into action in this half though but handled the ball well from an Adam Proudlock effort.
The main talking point of the game was when Simon Brown had a burst of pace down the right wing of the pitch on the Quarry Lane End of the West Stand and Rundle and Beardsley were screaming for the ball in the box only for Brown to over hit the ball and it rolled out of play. Towards the end of the game Peers had a mazy run into the opposition's half taking on 3 players on his way only to be brought down by the Wednesday left back, the eventual free kick was wasted by the Stags.

All in all a good solid display from a hungry Mansfield team the future certainly looks bright.

FT 0-0

Jelleyman 7 - Helped get forward, good effort.

Palmer 7 - Sponsors MOM. Got caught napping on the ball on two occasions, but generally played well.
Dawson 9 - Top appearance for this lad, was narrowly beaten to man of the match by Day. Should spend more time concentrating on the ball rather that whinging to the Referee.
Barker 7 - Challenged for every ball in the air and chased the ball down well.
Tipton 6 - Still looks a little rusty, finding it hard to settle down.
Birchall 8 - Looked really hungry for success, this lad will do well this season.
